Who doesn’t want their website to be indexed faster by search engines? If you are a big website with lots of traffic this wont be an issue for you as search engine bots index high traffic websites faster. But for newbie blogger with a limited amount of traffic this can be huge. If you have a list of websites to ping, you can just do it yourself for better indexing of your content.

Ping is an XML-RPC (a remote procedure call protocol which uses XML to encode its calls and HTTP as a transport mechanism. – via Wikipedia) based push mechanism by which a blog notifies a server that its content has been updated.

Thanks to WordPress, now you don’t have to do it manually as WordPress by default pings a lot of services. But if you expand the default list of ping websites in settings you can get your blog indexed by a lot more services. WordPress will automatically notify search engines and blog directories to index your website, RSS feed, blog or podcast every time your publish or update it.

By default WordPress uses Ping-O-Matic’s server (rpc.pingomatic.com), which is one of the popular ping service.  If you are using Yoast SEO Plugin, there is no need to Ping Yahoo or Ask.com as the plugin does it for you. Also, if you are submitting a sitemap file to Google and Bing, you also don’t need to bother pinging them.

I am going to share the list of ping services here, which I have been using for years and recommend that you use it too. Services listed on WordPress Codex are kinda outdated, so I have modified the list. This list is a compilation of the XML-RPC Ping Services from WordPress Codex and other online resources.
